Good Eats: THAI FOOD!!
The night before P left for Basel & Geneve, Switzerland for the Watch and Jewelry Expo, we had dinner at one of our favorite Thai Restaurants. Jasmine is located at the cor. of 84th St. and 2nd Avenue
For starters, P particularly liked the mild Po Taek Soup (seafood with glass noodles) while I prefer the spicier Tom Yum Goong. It packs such a hot wallop, my nose would start sweating seconds after I start eating it.They serve the Calamari sliced in chunks and fried to a crunch. It's so tender that I'm wondering if they soak it in milk prior to frying them. S alone could finish a plate of this by herself.
The tangy Green Papaya Salad got on nicely with the grilled Lemongrass-marinated Pork Chops. Whereas the vegetable dish, Tao Ho Hur may be a hit among vegetarians - but it's just not for me. The spinach wrapped in layers of thin tofu (like a large spring roll) didn't do much for my taste. Despite the generous brown sauce, eating the tofu was akin to munching on soft paper. Their Pad Thai though, is the best in town. And for seafood lovers, the Pla Lad Prik (deep fried snapper) bathed in spicy/sweet-sour sauce is worth trying.
The best part: Dessert!! An order of coconut custard came in 3 miniature bowls and was very flavorful and creamy.
