On the homefront, Americans celebrated the Fourth of July yesterday with BBQ cook-outs, picnics at the park/beach, and impressive fireworks - while P (and the rest of Germany, I suppose) mourned their teams' loss in the World Cup Semi-finals. The Italians scored the first of their 2 goals within the LAST minute and a half of overtime, to win with a score of 2-0.
Subway Directions to Coney Island: Take # 4 Train to Atlantic Avenue, then Transfer to D or F to the last stop (Stillwell Avenue) OR Take # 6 Train to Bleeker Street, then transfer to D or F to the last stop.
This is the home of the Cyclone Roller Coaster (in Astroland) and The Wonder Wheel (Denos Wonder Wheel Amusement Park).
Rides and attractions are generally open (around noontime) from Easter till Memorial Day. The Boardwalk is open all year long. Take Note: Every Friday night at 9:30 PM (through Labor Day), fireworks erupt over the beach.
Nathan's Hotdog celebrated its 90th Anniversary with its annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. We watched on TV as 160 lb. Takeru Kobayashi inhaled 53 3/4 hotdogs in 12 minutes! This broke his own 2004 record of 53 1/2 hotdogs.

The closest contender - Joey Chestnut (next to Takeru), managed to scarf down 52 dogs. This is Kobayashi's sixth straight win. Here's a weiner for a Winner!!
