Steppin' Out: CIELO, NYC
I had bought several of legendary DJ Louie Vega's (Master At Work) deep house CD's in the past so when I heard that he was spinning for Cielo's "Roots" Wednesday night party (along with Kevin Hedge), not even this freak April snow could hold me back from checking it out.
LINK: http://www.cieloclub.com/current.htmCielo is located at the Meatpacking District (within close proximity of Hogs & Heifers). It's pretty impressive that for a fairly small club (1 bar, 1 sunken dancefloor, 1 outdoor patio for smokers), it won quite a few awards (Best Club, Best Resident DJ, Best Deep House Club, etc.) during the recent years. Being a weekday, there was no waiting line - we simply breezed in. The dress code was casual, and the bouncer was actually smiling.
Tonight, there was a bit of old school house music vibe mixed with newer deep-house beats and entertainment was provided by a short, impromptu showdown on the dancefloor. Cocktails, for $12.00/glass wasn't too great. So I just stuck to the classic Red Bull/vodka mix.
