Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is not just any ordinary Seafood restaurant. It's one of the many themed restaurants here in NYC. This one's loosely based on the movie: FORREST GUMP (played by Tom Hanks). For anyone familiar (or who can still remember the plot), Forrest Gump's best friend, Bubba Blue (played by Mykelti Williamson) was nuts about shrimp. He spoke about going into the shrimping business as soon as the war was over. As everyone knows by now, he didn't make it home alive.
So Forrest did it in his memory. Thus the name: "Bubba Gump" LINK:

Also on display was the actual dress that Jenny Curran (played by Robin Wright Penn), the love of Forrest's life, wore in one of the hippier scenes.

This was the bench located next to the bus stop where Forrest uttered his now famous line: "Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates..."

The place also has a sense humor - if you flip the blue license plate on the table, it'll read: "Stop Forrest Stop" (in red). This means your server has to stop whatever he/she's doing to attend to your needs. When you're satisfied with his/her services, just flip it back to "Run Forrest Run". There are funny wooden placards hanging all over the place with Gumpisms like:

  • "Don't talk about yourself, well do that after you leave."
  • "I've only got one nerve left. Don't get on it!"
  • "Hitch your wagon to a star."

Their drinks menu is even attached to a wooden pingpong paddle. So kitschy!

P. ordered the Ultimate Combo (steak, broiled shrimps, mashed potatoes and onion rings), S. had her usual Mac N' Cheese, and I had the Fish n' Chips which was served English style - on a newspaper. Not any piece of paper, mind you. Upon closer look, its heading read: Greenbow County Dispatch and right on the lower right hand corner, a small orbituary announcing Jenny's death was printed.

After stuffing ourselves silly, we finally remembered what we came here for.

Huh? Oh... yes. *ting!* The Toys!
