Islander Tour: ISLA MUJERES, MEXICO (2)

Isla Mujeres is located off the Eastern shore of the Yucatan Peninsula. It's an island measuring 7.5 km long and 500 m wide. Sorry guys, its name doesn't mean that there's an abundance of women dwellers in the island. It simply refers to the numerous female-gender statues scattered all over the island. The sand was lighter in color and much finer than Cancun hotel beaches, and the turquoise water was clean and debris-free. One of the boats' crew member had bragged that we were going snorkeling in the 2nd largest reef in the world (2nd only to Australia), so P. and I thought it would be a wonderful first time experience for S. BIG MISTAKE. We didn't count the sea water to be a bit choppy that day so even though I was holding her at all times and making sure her lifejacket was snug, not even the word "Nemo" could make her dip her face in the water to take a peek at all the colorful fishes swimming around us. Oh well - I guess well let her try again in a couple of years...

On the other hand, the golf cart island tour in the afternoon was an hour and a half long trip. Were in the island for only 6 hours - 1 1/2 hours was spent snorkeling and an hour spent for lunch. S. and I didn't feel like spending half of the remaining time sitting in a golf cart. Sure, the island had a lot of scenic views but the thought of spending most of your time riding a golf cart and rolling along dry, bumpy roads (with no cold beer in sight) was not appealing at all. P. took the trip by himself and got the chance to pet the island's resident baby shark.

In the meantime, S. made friends with some other cutie kids while I basted myself with Coco Oil and slowly roasted under the hot sun.

And then we got busy testing each and every hammock we could find - while guzzling one frozen pinacolada (hers, virgin) after another.
